The Government of Liberia (GOL) through the Ministry of Youth and Sports has commenced a major renovation exercise at the Monrovia Vocational Training Center in Paynesville, outside Monrovia. According to a Ministry of Youth and Sports release, the renovation exercise targets nine buildings and part of the center’s concrete fence.
The exercise, which started on November 22, 2012, will cover the replacement of broken and corroded wooden and steel doors, windows, ceilings, floor tiles, damaged corridor rails, fixtures, air conditioners and water pipes. The 150-day project will also cover the repair of damaged roof, crack walls, drainages, the electrical system, painting, as well as elevation of a large portion of the center’s concrete fence from 5ft to 10ft high. Materials for the renovation were donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
Thanking the Liberian Government and its Chinese counterpart, MVTC’s Director Boye Robertson, assured that when completed, the exercise will improve the center’s learning environment and attract more students to it.
Meanwhile, MVTC will on today, Tuesday, December 18, 2012 graduate the first batch of trainees under its afternoon training session, piloted 18 months ago. A total of 162 trainees, who have successfully completed courses in masonry, electricity, computer education, plumbing, heavy duty, and auto mechanics, will be certificated.
Mr. Melvin Davis, Training Manager at the Liberia Electricity Corporation(LEC), is expected to serve as guest speaker at the occasion, under the theme; “The role of the technicians in the reconstruction of and development of Liberia”.
