US Reaffirms Support to Liberia’s Development

US Ambassador Deborah MalacThe Government of the United States of America through its Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Madam Deborah Malac, has reaffirmed her government’s support to the development agenda of Liberia. According to the American envoy, the US through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will work with the Government of Liberia (GoL) to rehabilitate water facilities in some major counties.

This, according to her, will help in the improvement of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector of Liberia. The US envoy made these comments on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the end of a three-day WASH sector review and launch of the WASH Sector Investment Plan (SIP).

The three-day WASH sector review and launch of the SIP was held at the Samuel Kanyan Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia. Speaking further, Amb. Malac said the meeting represents a milestone in the development of the WASH sector in Liberia. She said having clean water should be a basis for everyone as it is with the air that is breathed.

“Water is a precious resource as it is with the air that we breathe,” said the US diplomat.

She noted that water, sanitation and hygiene are very important for the development and transformation of Liberia.

As part of an effort to making the WASH sector more effective, she called on the Liberian government to establish the WASH Board. She pointed out that this will ensure that more progress is made in the WASH sector.
