Dismissed LAA Boss faces independent audit

The Board Chairman of the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), Mr. Musa Bility, has disclosed that the Board has already commissioned an independent audit regarding the operations of the dismissed  Managing  Director of the LAA, Ms Ellen Corkrum.

According to Mr. Bility, the audit covers the period between September 2012 and January 2013.  At the same time, the LAA  Board Chairman also disclosed that the LAA has been engaged by the General Auditing Commission(GAC) for an audit for the period between 2006 and 2012.

The LAA Board Chairman’s comments were contained in a press statement he delivered this week.  His press statement was in response to a press conference held   by Ms Corkrum and one Mr. Melvin Johnson last week in Monrovia.  During that Press Conference, Mr. Bility said they(Ms Corkrum and Mr. Johnson) made a series of allegations that, in some instances, bordered on rumors, slander, libel, and defamation of character and in other instances, pure speculations. Mr. Bility further said that the dismissed LAA Managing Director implicated him(Bility) to financial impropriety at the LAA.

Responding to the press conference, the LAA Board Chairman  threw out a challenge to Ms  Corkrum  to provide evidence  implicating him  to financial impropriety at the LAA.

The LAA Board Chairman made it clear that he holds nothing personal against Ms Corkrum, adding: “if she claims to have evidence implicating him in any wrongdoing, I invite her to submit that evidence to the appropriate Authority for investigation and action.”

It could be recalled that on January 28, 2013,  the LAA Board  terminated the services of Ms Corkrum. The LAA Board’s action was occasioned by a resolution by a unanimous vote of the assembled quorum during its January 28, 2013 meeting. The Board averred that Ms. Corkrum was dismissed because she supposedly breached her duties and obligations to the LAA in sharp contravention of her terms of reference. But Ms Corkrum is quoted by a newspaper as denying any wrong doing in the execution of her duties at the LAA.
