Sports Administrator Wants Football Developed at Grassroots Level

The President of Millennium Stars Football Club and Sports Academy says the development of football in Liberia must first begin at the grassroots level. According to Mr. B. Barbaye Korvah, the future of Liberian football lies in the hands of kids and the youth.

Mr. Korvah made these comments Sunday, February 3, 2013 at program marking the 16th anniversary of the Millennium Stars FC and 3rd anniversary of Millennium Stars Academy. The 16th anniversary of the Millennium Stars FC and 3rd anniversary of Millennium Stars Academy was held at the William V.S. Tubman Sports Pitch in Sinkor, Monrovia.

He added that the Millennium Sports Academy is geared towards building the young talents of kids at the early level.
Also speaking, the Vice President for Operations of the organization, Mr. Nusee E. Cooper, disclosed that Millennium FC, which gave birth to the Millennium Sports Academy, was founded as Power from Heaven in the Gbankay Town Community in Sinkor in 1997.

He said the organization deems it necessary to use the program as a tool to discipline children. For his part, the Assistant Minister for Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Murvee Gray, lauded the organization for its farsightedness in the development of football at the grassroots level.

Minister Gray said the growth and development of football begins with the fundamental aspect. He, however, urged the organization to blend the development of the game with formal classroom education. He said the key behind the success of any sports is education and that football is not an exception to this.
