The football squad of the Invincible Eleven (IE) Majestic Sports Association last week visited Grand Gedeh County for the first time in 43 years. The team travelled through the invitation of the Putu Iron Ore Country Manager, Mr. Christian Masurenko to take part in a soccer tournament organized by the company in celebration of the 56th Arm Forces Day of Liberia.
IE Vice President for Operations, Mr. Kekula K. Kamara, told journalists that his association agreed to the Putu Iron Ore Mining Company’s invitation in order to take the team and fans to that region of the country. The Yellow family was welcomed by members of the company staff and employees and officials of the county. IE drew 1-1 with the county team, but defeated the company team 1-0. The goal came through Osman Toure during the second half of the game.
Speaking further, Mr. Kamara extended thanks and appreciation to the team President, Dr. Richard Tolbert through whom their visit to the county was made possible. He also thanked officials of Putu Iron Ore Mining Company and citizens of Grand Gedeh for the hospitalities. He hoped and prayed that the relationship will continue among them.
“One of the main objectives of the team visit in that county was to bring back that undivided spirit among fans of the Yellow Family. The fans are the owners of the team, and in order to bring back that undivided spirit, we have to take the team to the people. During our visit, fans of that county proved to us that indeed, they are ready to work together in the interest of the association,” said Mr. Kamara.
Mr. Kamara emphasized that they also want to form a new team that will help to bring change to the association especially when it comes to the field of play and the only way that can happen is for them to visit the 15 political sub-divisions of the country.
He said their visit will help to discover several good players that could help to make the difference for the team.
The Yellow Family visit to Grand Gedeh is their fifth outside of Monrovia in recent time. The first was in Sinoe County where they played against the county team and Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) in celebration of the company anniversary in late December 2012.
The team also visited Bong, Margibi and Nimba Counties and played against them without any defeat. The IE VP for operations urged then his team Head Coach Papa Kamara and members of his technical staff as well as players try their possible best and change the current status of the team as they struggle to win their first game in the ongoing 2013 Liberia Football Assertion (LFA) first division league.
